August, 2006   HYUNDAI Information Technology (HIT): Fast Immigration Clearance Kiosk with Iris and Fingerprint Bio

JIRIS iris biometric solution, JEC3000 and its SDK has been integrated into Fast Immigration Clearance Kiosk at the electronic gates of the airports for the registered frequent flyers in 2005. This Airport Multi-modal Kiosk project was a strategic initiative contracted to HIT in order to (1) enhance the national security; (2) reduce a nominal immigration clearance processing time of 5 minutes to a few second at the airport.

HIT's kiosk uses a smart contact-less card with fingerprint and iris biometric authentication technology in conjunction with integrated databases, access control barriers, and other proprietary technology for validation and security. It performs a matching and verification of cardholder's identity by reading personal, 10-fingerprints & 2-iris template data from the card against the central database, accommodating both 1:1 and 1:N recognition, which also contains a blacklist, watch-list among others, at an average clearance time of 30 second in this first phase of project.

May, 2006   HR Department(Access Control) in Samsung Thales Kihung Laboratory

After the security breach by an insider who attempted to steal for highly confidential its next generation mobile phone design espionage attempt, HR Department of Samsung Thales Kihung Laboratory (STKL), strategically located in highly restricted Samsung R&D district, successfully implemented and has been operating JIRIS iris biometric security architecture design and solution to address the following for its 300 plus critical lab personnel and contractors since mid-2005:

1)Effective identity assurance management, audit trail and Enhanced security againstunauthorized access
2)Secure, yet Fast, Convenient, and Ease-of-use solution
3)Single platform that allowed both physical and IT access control for its complex laboratory facility with various range of restricted zones and IT infra
4)Seamless integration with existing legacy systems and future-proof solution that ensure scalability and interoperability.

Similar system has been implemented at In-Wha University Hospital for its 800 staff. In addition to those security applications, it also uses JIRIS solution for a time-and-attendance monitoring.

Februaryr 10, 2006   Frost & Sullivan Report: Large Scale Government Deployment on a Global Basis Spurring Growth in Iris

Palo Alto, CA - The ever-increasing need for security globally in combination with the mounting need for 1:N authentication has enabled iris recognition technology to gain a strong foothold in the security markets. Moreover, the falling prices of iris cameras in combination with the unique use of multimodal iris cameras are aiding its escalating deployment.

New analysis from Frost & Sullivan, World Iris Recognition Biometrics Market, reveals that the market earned revenues of $31.4 million in 2005 and estimates this to reach $313.3 million in 2013.

Wider deployment of iris recognition technologies expects to result in a fall in prices. Furthermore, prices of cameras have been decreasing following a recent boost in research and development (R&D), facilitating smaller cameras with higher processing speeds. Another factor promoting iris recognition technology is end-user preference as it is viewed as non-intrusive and more hygienic due to its non-contact nature.

"One of the most important events to occur in the iris recognition biometric market to date is expiration of the Flom Patent. This has encouraged new entrants into the market," says Frost & Sullivan Industry Analyst Sapna Capoor. "High accuracy levels for one-to-many authentication for large-scale applications provided iris recognition technologies a distinct competitive advantage, in particular in the government sphere."

Iris recognition technology is suitable right from high security applications to restricted access sites across industries. However, the most significant impact is being witnessed in the government vertical. Iris recognition biometrics is the most suitable for 1:N authentication, and as a result, the government vertical prefers utilizing it for border control management. The increasing need for tighter border and immigration control throughout the world, and the realization of projects such as expedited passenger processing globally expects to spur revenue growth in this marketplace.

"Nonetheless, a key project based on government subsidies, conducted in Andhra Pradesh, India, has set the precedence for the adoption of iris technology for government and law enforcement applications," elaborates Capoor. "The aim of the project is to use iris recognition biometrics to control and manage the distribution of subsidized food and affordable housing to eligible individuals."

With Europe dominating the global arena of the iris recognition biometrics market, increased implementation in North America is likely to change market leadership dynamics. However, the Middle East and Asia Pacific regions are also fast catching up to ensure a positive outlook for this market.

The World Iris Recognition Biometrics Market is part of the AutoID and Security Growth Partnership Service, which includes research services in the following geographic sectors: North America, EMEA, Asia Pacific and Latin America. Information on application segments such as physical access control/ time and attendance, PC/network security, government and law enforcement, and transactional authentication are also provided. All research services included in subscriptions provide detailed market opportunities and industry trends evaluated following extensive interviews with market participants.
